Can I install EasyFit smoke alarms myself, or do I need an electrician?
Yes! In many existing Queensland homes, you can install EasyFit smoke alarms yourself — no electrician required.
Our wireless smoke alarms use sealed 10-year batteries, so there's no need to run new electrical wiring between alarms.
If you're replacing an existing 240V hardwired smoke alarm, its replacement must also be hardwired and installed by a licensed electrician. New homes and major renovations also have specific hardwired requirements.
For existing homes where battery-powered smoke alarms are permitted, EasyFit offers a straightforward DIY solution.
How many smoke alarms does my home need, and where should they go?
In Queensland, smoke alarms are required:
- Inside every bedroom.
- In hallways connecting bedrooms to the rest of the home.
- Between bedrooms and other areas where no hallway exists.
- On every storey, including an appropriate exit-path location on a storey without bedrooms.
The number you need depends on your home's layout, not just the number of bedrooms.

Do EasyFit Home Kits arrive already interconnected?
Yes! We do the pairing for you.
Every EasyFit Home Kit arrives with all smoke alarms already wirelessly interconnected and the included remote control already paired.
Simply activate the alarms, install them in the correct locations and test your system.
There's no complicated pairing or programming required. When one alarm detects smoke, all interconnected alarms sound together.
What's included in a Home Kit? Is the remote really free?
Yes! Every EasyFit Home Kit includes a FREE Test & Hush remote control.
Your Home Kit includes:
- Your selected number of interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms.
- One FREE Test & Hush remote, already paired.
- Mounting screws and wall plugs.
- Installation instructions.
- Product compliance documentation.
The remote makes testing your alarms easier, particularly in rooms with high ceilings, and allows you to hush nuisance alarms after checking that there is no fire.

How do I install the alarms? Are screws and adhesive pads included?
EasyFit smoke alarms are designed for straightforward DIY installation where battery-powered alarms are suitable.
Each alarm has a thin, removable mounting plate that separates from the main alarm body with a twisting action.
Mounting screws and wall plugs are supplied. Our current kits also include double-sided adhesive mounting rings as an alternative where the mounting surface and manufacturer's installation instructions permit their use.
Once the mounting plate is securely fitted, attach the alarm, activate it as instructed and test your interconnected system.
Will EasyFit alarms work through walls and between floors?
Yes, EasyFit alarms can communicate through many walls and between floors using wireless radio-frequency (RF) technology.
However, the effective range depends on your home's construction, layout and the materials between alarms. Concrete floors, metal structures and other obstacles can reduce the wireless signal.
For two-storey homes, granny flats or rooms above garages, we recommend checking the connection in the intended locations before permanently mounting the alarms.

Do EasyFit alarms need Wi-Fi or an app?
No! EasyFit alarms work independently of your home's Wi-Fi or internet connection.
The alarms communicate directly with each other using wireless radio-frequency technology.
No Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, smartphone app or internet connection is required.
Once activated and correctly installed, your interconnected alarm system can operate without relying on your home internet connection.
Can I split a Home Kit between two properties or a granny flat?
Yes! We can customise your Home Kit into separate interconnected alarm groups to suit your needs.
For example, an 8-Alarm Home Kit can be configured as:
- 5 interconnected alarms for your main home.
- 3 interconnected alarms for a separate granny flat.
Each group operates independently, meaning alarms in one group won't trigger those in the other. Each group can have its own Test & Hush remote, with an additional remote required for a second group.
Customising your Home Kit is easy! Simply add your chosen Home Kit to your cart. You'll find customisation options in your shopping cart where you can specify how you'd like your alarms grouped and paired.
We'll take care of the setup before dispatch, so your alarms arrive pre-paired and ready to install!
Can I buy extra alarms or use a single alarm in a caravan or shed?
Yes! EasyFit smoke alarms are also available individually.
You can purchase additional compatible alarms to expand an existing EasyFit system, or use a single smoke alarm independently where only one alarm is appropriate.
A standalone alarm does not require a remote control.
For caravans, motorhomes, granny flats or other separate spaces, the number and placement of alarms must meet the applicable requirements. Some properties require multiple interconnected alarms.
For sheds and garages, also check that the environment is suitable for a photoelectric smoke alarm.
Can I use more than one remote control with my EasyFit alarms?
Every Home Kit includes one FREE Test & Hush remote, already paired with your interconnected alarms.
For our current smoke alarm model, one remote can be paired with each interconnected alarm group at a time.
If you want to split your Home Kit into two separate groups, you can purchase an additional remote and we'll prepare the groups for you.
For example, a six-alarm kit could be configured as two independent groups of three alarms, each with its own remote.

How long do the batteries last? Do I need to replace them?
EasyFit smoke alarms are designed with sealed, non-removable batteries intended to provide up to 10 years of service under normal conditions.
There's no need for regular battery replacement.
The alarms must still be tested and maintained in accordance with the user manual. Replace an alarm if it reaches its end of life, becomes faulty or its battery warning indicates replacement is required.
Smoke alarms must also be replaced when they reach 10 years from their manufacture date, even if they still appear to operate.
How quickly will my order be delivered?
We offer FREE tracked delivery Australia-wide.
Orders placed before 12 pm AEST are typically dispatched the same business day. Orders placed later, on weekends or public holidays are generally dispatched the next business day.
Standard delivery is typically 2–5 business days, although regional and remote areas may take longer.
Once your order is dispatched, we'll email your tracking details so you can follow your delivery.
