In many Queensland homes, yes. EasyFit’s non-removable 10-year battery alarms can be installed without an electrician where battery-powered alarms are suitable. If you are replacing an existing 240V hardwired alarm, it must be replaced with an appropriate 240V photoelectric alarm and the electrical work must be completed by a licensed electrician
In Queensland, smoke alarms are required in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms to the rest of the home, and on every storey. If there is no hallway, an alarm is required between the bedrooms and the rest of the storey. On a storey with no bedrooms, at least one alarm is required on the likely path to the exit.
Where practicable, install alarms on the ceiling and keep them at least:
• 300 mm from light fittings
• 300 mm from the corner where the ceiling meets a wall
• 400 mm from air-conditioning supply vents
• 400 mm from the blades of a ceiling fan
